There is no doubt that small, medium and micro-sized enterprises (SMMEs) are the backbone of the economy. According to [The Small Business Institute (SBI)][1], these small businesses make up 98.5% of the country’s economy yet face several challenges that prevent them from thriving. With around five out of seven small businesses in South Africa failing in the first year, the start-up costs include attracting customers, maintaining profitability, increasing revenue, securing finance, and managing day-to-day operations. Small businesses have the potential to increase employment and uplift the communities in which they operate, but only if they receive the support they need to thrive. EXXARO SEND EXPERT DELEGATION TO GLOBAL LEADERS COP26 CLIMATE CHANGE SUMMIT

Exxaro today announced that it is sending several of its Executives and Sustainability Experts to form part of the South African delegation to participate at the 2021 COP26 Climate Change Summit which takes place from 31 October to 12 November in Glasgow, Scotland. The 26th United Nations’ (UNs) Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) will bring together global leaders to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC). Exxaro Resources today confirms that it has fulfilled its annual obligations as a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. Exxaro recently delivered its UNGC Communication on Progress (COP) document which is a requirement to maintain its status on the voluntary leadership platform which focuses on the development, implementation and disclosure of responsible business practices. EXXARO PARTNERS WITH DIS-CHEM PHARMACY TO VACCINATE EMPLOYEES

Black empowered mining company, Exxaro Resources, recently partnered with Dis-Chem to vaccinate its employees, contractors, and their next of kin at the Exxaro head office, the conneXXion. As at 15 October - the partnership began in August 2021 and has seen over 570 people receive the vaccination through the partnership thus far. General Manager - Safety and Health at Exxaro, Dr Joseph Matjila expressed his excitement to this partnership by saying that “to reach herd immunity has to do with partnerships, not just between business and government but between business and business. The health of our people and citizens, is a responsibility that sits on us all and not just our government health department.” According to the Minerals Council South Africa (MCSA), 41% of mining employees are partially/fully vaccinated.

Diversified mining company Exxaro Resources’ Cennergi and the Amakhala Emoyeni Community Fund Trust (AECFT, the beneficiary of ED and SED funds from the 134 MW Amakhala Emoyeni Wind Farm) in partnership with the Blue Crane Route Local Municipality did an on-site inspection of the erection of thirty (30) solar powered streetlights. The battery pack streetlights aim to assist with lighting up the most vulnerable parts of Cookhouse to prevent crime and promote safety.
